About Us

The Inter-American Health Alliance is a volunteer-run 501(c)3 charitable organization that supports community health organizations working with marginalized populations in the western highlands of Guatemala.

We provide financial, technical and organizational support to our partnering organizations.

We work to improve access to health care and health education through the development of innovative collaborations between governmental, non-governmental, and educational institutions.

We are committed to a human rights-based framework for improving health and support our partners in recognizing and supporting the linkage between health and human rights.

We believe in the power of service-learning and in the potential for sustainable university collaborations to improve health conditions in the communities where we work and to speed access to up-to-date, evidence-based clinical information and medical technologies.

We are entirely volunteer-run, which allows us to provide our on-the-ground partners with the maximum level of support.

IAHA and Primeros Pasos

The Inter-American Health Alliance's core partner is Primeros Pasos, a Guatemalan non-profit organization that works with families in western Guatemala to improve health through innovative clinical, educational, and community-organizing programs.

IAHA fundraises for Primeros Pasos' operations, provides logistical support, and coordinates donations of supplies. We work closely with other charitable U.S.-based groups and universities to develop sustainable relationships that can help support the work of Primeros Pasos.

IAHA and CHILA Inc.

CHILA Inc. was the Inter-American's second health care partner in Guatemala.  CHILA Inc. is a community health clinic in it's construction phase, located in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala.  The IAHA acts as a fiscal sponsor for CHILA Inc. as well as promoting their project and keeping all IAHA interested parties informed on what happening with the CHILA team.  Look for CHILA updates in the IAHA newsletter!

IAHA and EntreMundos

EntreMundos is the IAHA's newest partner, brought on in January 2010.  EntreMundos is a local non-profit located in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala which offers volunteer placement services and capacity building workshops to over 160 local NGO's in the area.  The IAHA is excited to be a part of the growing movement to expand services to small, local NGO's and to improve the overall well being of the people they serve through specific trainings and workshops.
